The Post
Five words and a fist from a Riot MMO producer, read 12,242 times in a day, and a colleague's "I totally agree with you" GIF for an answer.
How much can five words carry when the people who wrote them don't talk about their work? Late on Wednesday evening in the US, Sarah Tudor, a game producer on the Riot MMO, posted "Yall…. Time to lock in." and a fist emoji. No picture, no link, nothing quoted, nobody replied to. By 19:00 UTC on September 17 it had been read 12,242 times, on an account with about 1,800 followers.
The post went up at 03:46 UTC. Tudor has had the job since June 3, the day she announced it, and her X bio reads "Game Producer on the Riot MMO" followed by the same fist. It lists earlier producer jobs at 2XKO, Riot's fighting game, and at Blizzard, the studio whose fan convention she had spent the previous weekend at. Riot announced the MMO in December 2020, has shown no gameplay since, and its team doesn't post about the work, so five words from a producer are the closest thing to a signal fans get.
She hasn't said what it means. The 18 replies visible on the post are from fans, one of them asking "Is it a reference to wow or riot mmo ?", and she has answered none of them. Nobody else at Riot has said what it refers to either, and r/RiotMMO, the game's subreddit, had no thread about it as of 18:45 UTC. Quote-posts carried it through the day, and the one that matters came from inside the team.
Raymond Bartos, a senior game producer on the Riot MMO, quote-posted Tudor at 16:22 UTC with no words of his own and a GIF of Michael Scott, the boss from the US sitcom The Office, captioned "I totally agree with you!" His X bio lists his previous job as lead producer on World of Warcraft at Blizzard. The GIF had 231 views by 19:00 UTC, which is the size of a private joke between colleagues, posted in public.
The BlizzCon Week
She had spent the weekend at BlizzCon praising WoW Forever, and the phrase repeats her June join post, which the executive producer answered with an eyes emoji.
Fifteen minutes after the GIF, at 16:37 UTC, Tudor posted four photos and explained where she had been. She had spent September 12 and 13 at BlizzCon: "Had so much fun at Blizzcon this weekend! Wow forever looks so amazing, I can't wait for StarCraft, and OOH, I love Doctrine in OW!! So much fun, ran into so many old teammates from Blizz".

WoW Forever, the new version of World of Warcraft that Blizzard revealed there, built on the original 2004 game and expanded rather than replaced, launches on November 4. A Riot MMO producer calling it amazing in public is a small thing, and it's also a data point about what that team thinks players want. That reading is ours, not hers.
We spent the week on what Blizzard said on stage, and the design she was praising is specific. Blizzard ruled out flying mounts and added ships instead, so the long way round is where players meet. It built a campfire that only buffs you after a minute of sitting, with every profession feeding one fire. Nora Mills, the lead software engineer on WoW Forever, says the flight path stays long on purpose so you feel the scale of the world and enjoy the journey.
The rest of the reveal cut toward convenience. Blizzard deleted the realm list, so rule sets replace servers and the world decides which strangers you keep seeing. It put a gamepad mode in, and it told the story of prototyping hardcore in two weeks, when one holiday took concurrency from 200 to 1,500. Tudor watched all of that from the floor. Bartos, by his own bio, used to be lead producer on the game WoW Forever is built on.
I'm so extremely happy and LOCKED IN! Let's make this thing!!
— Sarah Tudor, announcing her move to the Riot MMO, June 3 2026, the post
The wording is hers from before. On June 3 she announced the move: "Hey! I've joined the Riot MMO as a Game Producer!! I'm so extremely happy and LOCKED IN! Let's make this thing!!" That post was read 1,067,717 times, and twelve minutes later Fabrice Condominas, the executive producer who leads the MMO, quote-posted it with a single eyes emoji, which drew 32,846 views of its own. So "lock in" is a phrase she used about this job on her first day. Whether Wednesday's version means anything more, only she knows, and she isn't saying.

What This Means for the Riot MMO
Our read, labelled speculative: a team that says nothing showed its mood, and the world it's building already has a picture of locking in.
Our read, and it's speculative. Riot has confirmed exactly one thing about this game: it is set in Runeterra. Scope, era, platform and price are all unrevealed, and the people building it don't post about the work. So the fans read what's there, and what's there this week is a producer's mood.
Read it as mood, not a date. Two producers who came from Blizzard, one of them straight off the convention floor, reacted to the week their old studio showed WoW Forever: one said lock in, the other answered with a GIF that says I totally agree with you. Nothing in the thread confirms a milestone, a playtest or a reveal, and the phrase was already in her vocabulary in June, on her first day in the job. The one person to watch is Condominas. He answered her June post within twelve minutes. If he reacts to this one, that is the next story.
So the fans read what's there, and what's there this week is a producer's mood.
| Side by side | What the thread says | What Riot has confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Setting | Not mentioned | Runeterra |
| A milestone or playtest | Nothing named. Five words and a fist. | Not revealed |
| A reveal date | Nothing named | Not revealed |
| Regions, scope, era, platform, price | Not mentioned | Not revealed |
| Team mood | Lock in, an "I totally agree with you" GIF, and praise for WoW Forever | Riot does not comment on it |
- Read the post as team mood, not a date. Two producers who came from Blizzard reacted to the week Blizzard showed WoW Forever: one said lock in, the other agreed with a GIF. Riot has confirmed no milestone, playtest or reveal.
- Tudor called WoW Forever "so amazing" in public. A Riot MMO producer praising a competitor's pitch of keeping a 2004 game alive for good is a data point about what the team thinks players want.
- The team's own posts are the only signal. Five words read 12,242 times from an account of about 1,800 followers, and a colleague's agreeing GIF, are what a team that says nothing in public looks like from outside.
- The phrase repeats her June join post, which Condominas answered with an eyes emoji within twelve minutes. If he reacts to this one, that is the next story.
- Nothing here changes what Riot has said, which is one fact: the game is set in Runeterra.
Your Take
Is ‘Time to lock in’ a Riot MMO tease?
What to Watch
One dated beat from the week, then three more RuneGrove reads on what Blizzard showed.
World of Warcraft: Forever launches
The game Tudor called amazing. The no-flying, campfire and realm-list decisions ship with it.
Reported from Sarah Tudor (@MuddyMink) on X and the posts embedded above, read through fxtwitter. The MMO read is ours and clearly speculative. Analysis by RuneGrove.
